Data Protection Services Awarded SAS 70 Type II Certification
Hammond, LA (PRWEB) January 15, 2008 -- Data Protection Services (DPS), the leading provider of online backup (http://www.dataprotection.com/) and disaster recovery solutions to companies and organizations throughout the United States and Canada, today announced that it has completed the Certified Public Accountants Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70, Type II audit. This important achievement represents that Data Protection Services has been through an in-depth audit of their control activities, including physical security and environmental controls, information systems controls, and all related processes in the delivery of online backup and disaster recovery services. "This is a significant achievement for DPS, and it is of considerable importance to our existing and prospective customers. Earning SAS 70 Type II certification is an important step in assuring our clients that when they experience a data loss event, whether small or catastrophic, DPS will be able to restore their data and get them back up and running with minimum downtime," said DPS CEO Jeff Danos.
A Type II SAS 70 audit report is comprehensive and covers policies, procedures and controls in place at an organization over a minimum of six months. The more limited Type I report details the controls in place at a single point in time and only includes an auditor's assessment of whether the controls were suitably designed, whereas in the Type II audit, the controls are observed, confirmed, and tested by the auditor. By satisfying SAS 70 Type II requirements, DPS clients can be assured that current industry best practices related to online backup and disaster recovery services are being used by the company.
For clients subject to the requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, SAS 70 audit reports are an important element in determining that effective internal controls are in place at DPS. Managers of companies that are required to establish, maintain, and assess internal control structures for financial reporting can accrue immediate benefits from the DPS SAS 70 certification, because it documents that DPS operates a compliant and secure infrastructure that satisfies all requirements of Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
"DPS clients can be assured that their data is secure and compliance requirements are being satisfied," adds Danos, "and that our company does what we say we do in the protection of client data."
